NYC Is Unhappy and Over Priced During the Bloomberg Reign

New York was voted the most unhappy city to live in and the most expensive over a 2 day period. Thanks to the leadership of Mayor Bloomberg the quality of life for the poor and middle class has deteriorated.

Under the Mayor cost of living has risen and salaries have not kept pace. Small businesses fail and big companies grow but pay low wages. Rents have skyrocketed to the highest in the nation and crime despite fudged statistics is still a major problem in poor neighborhoods. A recent poll found most New Yorkers felt crime was on the rise.

No money and higher crime. Both have occurred under the Bloomberg administration and have made life in New York City difficult and unfulfillng for the poor and middle class

I saw the Mayor on TV during the Thanksgiving Day parade and he said this is why you become Mayor so you can be so close to the festivities and the balloons. Did anyone see the Mayor trying to hog the limelight during the Yankees World Series victory? The reporters ignored him which was a very good thing. His grandstanding was an embarrassment for New Yorkers. This proves that the Mayor only cares about his own pleasure and celebrity. Being Mayor should be about helping your fellow New Yorkers and nothing else.

Where Are Our Democratic Leaders? They Need to Take Charge

Mayor Bloomberg has won and now its time for the Government of New York City to come out of exile so that this doesn't happen again.
The people and the leaders of the Democratic party need to unite to stop King Bloomberg from putting the poor and middle class into further despair.

Rents must come down and be fair in NYC. Under Mayor Bloomberg it has not happened.

Crime in poor neighborhoods must be stopped and fictitious numbers must be uncovered.

The real situation of our children just being taught to pass tests and not really learning anything must be uncovered. School crime must be stopped.

Democratic leaders who have endorsed Mayor Bloomberg must be revealed and they need to explain how they do not care about their constituencies. An example would be Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz who by endorsing Mayor Bloomberg has told his Brooklyn residents he does not care about the problems they are experiencing. Creating concerts does not pay rent.

It is time for the real leaders of the Democratic Party to step forward and lead protests against corrupt leaders like Bloomberg, Markowitz and Quinn.

Where is Charles Schumer? Where was Al Sharpton until the end of the election? Why doesn't Sharpton march on City Hall about rents?

Will Bill Thompson and Anthony Weiner lead the way and do all that is possible to stop Bloomberg? The time has come for the real leaders of the Democratic party to emerge and take the city back.

New York Falls From #1 Financial Center in the World. Thanks For Nothing Mayor Bloomberg

New York has fallen from number 1 to number 3 as the main financial center of the world. Mayor Bloomberg is supposed to be an economic genius but he has failed miserably as our leader and made us worse off than we were 8 years ago. Unemployement is up to new highs and we are now number 3 in the world. He is a failure. Here is a link to the article on how we have fallen http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/33592580/ns/business-businessweekcom/
Today is our chance to stop Bloomberg from failing us further. Vote William Thompson.

Vote Bill Thompson on Election Day

I'm not a fan of the campaign that Bill Thompson has run but I will vote for him wholeheartedly on election day because it will bring the end of Mayor Bloomberg's dictatorship as Mayor. It will give hope back to the middle class and poor if Mayor Bloomberg is gone.

Mike Bloomberg chose all the members of the rent guidelines board and he is a landlord himself. Rents have gone to ridiculous highs throughout New York. This is someone who does not care how people will pay their bills.

Mike Bloomberg chose to ignore the public and got term limits overruled allowing him to run for a third term. Our votes need to count and with Mike Bloomberg they do not count.

Unemployment is over 10% for the first time in over 20 years. Thanks Mike! We love having no jobs and high rents in New York. It is time for Mike to go!

Test scores according to the Mayor are up. Maybe its true but how does the explain a 90% failure rate of New York school kids taking the entrance exam at CUNY colleges? It is time for Mike to go!

If you care about this great city and the people in it then you will vote for Bill Thompson as I will on election day. Its time for Mike to go!

Where are the jobs promised in ads?

Mike Bloomberg has a commercial saying how he has a plan to create jobs. He's been Mayor for 8 years and unemployment in NYC is over 10% which is the highest its been in over 20 years. Why is he waiting until he's elected to create jobs? Why hasn't he created the jobs in the previous 8 years of his administration? Its because he is not the master of the economy he claims. He is a failure.
Its time for Mike Bloomberg to go.

Rudy Up to Old Tricks in Bloomberg Push

Read Gabe Pressman's article on Rudy Giuliani talking on behalf of Mike Bloomberg. It is scary that the Mayor of New York City can condone this type of behavior. Mike Bloomberg and Rudy Giuliani create a dynamic duo of terror for the citizens of New York City. Here is a link to the article

Bloomberg Spends $65 Million on Campaign and Will Reach $100 Million!

Bill Thompson has only gotten $3.8 million while Mayor Bloomberg has used his own bank account to spent $65 million on his campaign. We are inundated with flyers in our mailbox and TV and radio commercials by Bloomberg but no flyers and only an ocassional TV commercial by Bill Thompson. How many people even know Bill Thompson is running because of the discrepancy in spending?
This is a serious issue that allows the rich to control the city and continue to abuse the poor and middle class. Mayor Bloomberg used his power to get term limits over turned and now he is buying the election. In a nation going through a recession and unseen unemployement in the last 30 years Mayor Bloomberg has used his money to gain even more control over the poor and middle class.
It is important that everyone who believes in saving the environment and the effects of global warming vote against Mike Bloomberg. The amount of money he has spent on flyers that are not on recycable paper is criminal.
Anyone who is unemployed should vote against Mayor Bloomberg. You are struggling and he spends money on a campaign that should not be allowed since he got term limits over turned without allowing an election of the voters to determine how they felt about it. He has been the Mayor during one of the worst periods of unemployement in New York City history. He says he has created jobs but ask if that is true of all the construction workers and retail workers who are unemployed. Ask all the owners of small business who have had to shutter their stores if it is true.
Mayor Bloomberg must be stopped by people with children. When you tell your child that they can grow up to be anything they want you will be lying to them if Mayor Bloomberg wins another term because if he wins it means that only the rich can win.

Where Is Thompson? Where is Schumer? Where are the Cuomo's?

Today is the Democratic primary for Mayor and William Thompson has done nothing so far to get his campaign moving. There are groups out there that are pushing very hard for the defeat of Mike Bloomberg such as Bloomberg Watch. They are doing a great job but William Thompson is invisible.

It almost seems like he doesn't want the nomination. He must start making his move now or it will be too late and another 4 years of Bloomberg will be upon us.

He is supposed to start his campaign commercials this week. I do hope they are better than he has been in the debates. He is our only hope and he needs to show he has the passion and the desire to be Mayor or we will be lost to more Bloomberg greed causing more suffering for the poor and middle class.

Bloomberg can be beaten but not if his opponent has no passion. He must take the bull by the horns and get all the leaders of the Democratic party behind him with enthusiasm.

Where are the Democratic leaders of the party? Where is Charles Schumer? Where are the Cuomo's? Where is Marty Markowitz? They must get behind William Thompson with all their support and push him over the top or all will be lost for a once proud city.

The Mayor Makes Disingenuous Cross Town Bus Plan

Mayor Bloomberg has come up with a plan to make cross town buses free. This is very odd. If the MTA is in such trouble financially and has no money how can this be done? Suddenly there is money? Not everyone comes from the train as the Mayor suggests and that would cost the MTA more money.

The Mayor is talking about doing this in Manhattan. Why not the Bronx, Brooklyn and Queens? Are they invisible? People get off the train to finish their trips on the bus in the other boroughs.

This is a plan that will only help a few people in Manhattan if it does get approved which I find unlikely.

This plan is like offering someone snow in the winter.

If the Mayor wants to help people save money why doesn't he abolish the raise in the sales tax? The rise in sales tax affects far more people.

This is nothing more than a ploy to get the Mayor in the papers and on the news and make like he is such a good guy but this idea is disingenuous.

Mayor Gives All His Buddies Raises Leaving Everyone Else Out in the Cold

The Mayor does in the poor and middle class every chance he gets and he does it without fan fare from the press which allows his Kingdom to lie to the public with ads and commercials that are truly fictitious.
On Friday it was announced that the Mayor had given raises totalling 69 million over 2 years. This would seem like a good thing but those raises were given to 6,692 of his managers and non union employees. Among the people getting raises were Police Commissioner Kelly going from $189,700 a year to $212,947 a year. Deputy Mayor Patricia Harris received a raise of $18, 541 to bring her yearly salary to $245,760. Other people who got raises of more than $15,000 are the Taxi Commissioner and the Mayor's Press Secretary.
By announcing on Friday the press basically ignored it on Saturday a slow news day. It has not bothered to pick up the issue.
City workers who are not associated with the Mayor lose their jobs while transit fares, rents and taxes are either going up or gone up. Money for police is lacking and quality of life crimes are up but yet the Mayor finds money for his cronies and buddies for raises when the poor and middle class of New York continue to struggle. Let us not forget that unemployement in New York is over 9%.
The Mayor needs to be investigated but the press is falling down on its job to do so.
William Thompson got the endorsement this past week of the Working Families Party. He must defend those families and start pounding at the Mayor on these issues to bring the truth out about a corrupt administration run by Mayor Bloomberg.

The Mayor Has Failed

It has recently been suggested to me that the way to defeat Mayor Bloomberg is by attacking him over term limits.

I think this is a mistake and will come to haunt anyone who tries this tactic. The people of NYC are looking for a city where employment is up and safety on our streets is assured. We want a city where we can afford the culture we are lucky to be living in. We want a city where our children learn rather than just pass tests for political gain. We want a city to be proud of with a new World Trade Center rather than a city where every attempt by the Mayor to start a new project fails because of arrogance or disdain for the people living in the neighborhoods. We want a city where housing and not baseball stadiums are the priority.

Under the Bloomberg administration rents have soared and have not gotten better at any point during his administration. Tenants can't afford these rents and small landlords can't afford to maintain the buildings. For a Mayor that knows so much about the economy he has totally failed on this issue. If you own a co-op or a house in NYC during the Bloomberg administration you will have seen your property value has gone down rather than up. If Mayor Bloomberg is such a great economist how did he not know that the economy of NYC was in such dire shape? He has failed and the citizens of NYC have suffered because of it.

The World Trade Center was destroyed in 2001 and yet nothing has been done. Every project in NYC that the Mayor has touched is a failure and he refuses to take blame.

The Mayor took credit for crime being down in our schools but the following day it was reported that more student on student violence was up. The Mayor has ignored this issue. He has also ignored the fact that our students can't pass college entrance exams with his methods.

Go on the train early in the morning and you will find homeless people living in the cars. The Mayor does nothing.

The Mayor has failed at his job and must be removed for this reason. Either William Thompson or Tony Avella must show that Bloomberg has failed at his job and that people in NYC are suffering financially. They must begin now because Mayor Bloomberg has failed.

Mike Bloomberg Fails To Lead

If Mayor Bloomberg really cared about Mayoral control of the school system as he says he does why doesn't he make an effort to get them back to work?
He calls them names and ridicules them rather than try and be a mediator and a leader. If the Mayor was a member of the State Senate I'm sure he would act just as childish with his usual arrogance and name calling.
Leaders lead while men like Mike Bloomberg ridicule and create barriers and dislike.
Just like the State Senators the Mayor needs to go.

Mayor Bloomberg Picks Rent Guidelines Board & is a Landlord Conflict of Interest

Mayor Bloomberg picks all the members on the rent guidelines board and yet he is a landlord. This would be equivalent to an Owner being on a Union board making decisions for employees. It is a conflict of interest.
The Mayor of NYC keeps getting more controls and the poor and middle class keep suffering more.
It is time for people to realize that Mayor Bloomberg is taking advantage of his wealth to make more and more power grabs harming the poor and middle class more and more.
See the following article for more information on his property

83% of NYC Graduated High School Students Fail College Exams

About 83% of students entering City University of New York community colleges last year failed placement exams and had to take remedial courses in reading, writing or math - and most graduated from city high schools, records show.Read more: http://www.nydailynews.com/news/2008/09/01/2008-09-01_many_entering_cuny_students_failed_place-2.html#ixzz0JIm7JWT5&C
The above paragraph is from an article in the New York Daily News. I went in search of it after I heard Mayor Bloomberg taking credit for the dropout rate and graduation rate being so much better in New York City.
The Mayor is doing a poor job of preparing our youth for higher education yet he takes credit for them passing tests. The tests get easier every year and the kids are just taught to pass the tests. Once they have to think for themselves they are in trouble because the Mayor's policy is to pass a test and not to learn.
My hope is that the Mayor does not get control of the schools again but I know he will because he keeps people blinded with his fancy ads and odd lack of courageous leaders to stand up to him.

NYC Jobless Rate at 9% Highest Since 1997

It was announced on Friday June, 19th that unemployement in NYC had reached 9% the highest its been since 1997.
If Michael Bloomberg is such a genius at business and solving economic problems how did it reach its highest point in 12 years?
Maybe its time to realize that all Michael Bloomberg does is advertise and sell himself.
If the economy starts to recover at some point he will take credit but it will be money acquired from the Federal government that will allow for improvements.
NYC is not a pleasant city under Michael Bloomberg as people are looking for work and coming up empty.

Brooklynites Moving to Jersey Rents Too High Thanks Mr. Mayor

Brooklynites are moving to Jersey City and Hoboken because the rents are too high in NYC.
The reason being that Mayor Bloomberg has not done anything to help tenants in NYC. He picks all the members of the board so they are favorable to the landlords.
See the following article at http://www.nydailynews.com/real_estate/2009/06/12/2009-06-12_bye_brooklyn_hello_journal_square.html to find out about the Brooklyn exodus.
Fair rents can only be achieved with the ouster of Mayor Bloomberg.

Mayor Bloomberg Does Not Understand Finances Of People He Governs

Mayor Bloomberg said that President Obama doesn't get paid that much and lives on a budget in reference to the President and First Lady coming to New York this past Saturday for a play and dinner.
First of all the President and his family get free room and board on top of his salary and he also received 2.5 million in book royalities. Doesn't sound like someone who is struggling financially.
How many people who work on Broadway or at the restaurant the President and First Lady had dinner at make anywhere near that kind of money?
The Mayor will always says that the wealthy which President Obama is are struggling. He never recognizes that the people who are really struggling are the poor and middle class.
The Mayor is completely out of touch and does not care about the people he governs. He needs to start finding ways to help the groups of people that struggle to pay for rent, transit fare and food.

Mayor Calls Reporter A Disgrace

Mayor Bloomberg was asked at a new conference on May 28, 2009 by New York Observer reporter Azi Paybarah if the budget is now balanced is it necessary for Mayor Bloomberg to still run for a third term. The Mayor told Mr. Paybarah he was a disgrace for asking the question.
Many New Yorkers still do not approve of the fact that Mayor Bloomberg has been approved to run for a third term. He did not get this approval with a popular vote but by political haggling.
The Mayor does not understand that people want answers to this question and that any question is legimate when you are running for Mayor.
The Mayor appears to want to be King rather than the Mayor of New York

Mayor Bloomberg To Slash Brooklyn Public Library Budget By 17.5 Million

Mayor Bloomberg has decided to slash $17.5 million of the Brooklyn Public Library's budget and give borough residents the fewest library hours in the city.
Once again the Mayor in his infinite wisdom has decided to attack the poor and middle class. Senior citizens, the unemployed and children spent many hours per day in the library. For senior citizens it is a way of cheap entertainment and a way to keep up with today's world. For the unemployed who like to read or need the use of computer or videos it is a way to get these things at no cost. It is also a place they can do research to get a new job. For the children of Brooklyn it is plain and simple a place to learn and to grow and make New York City a better place. These people can not afford to spend $10-20 a book at Barnes & Nobles like the wealthier people Mayor Bloomberg refuses to tax.
The Mayor does not care about the poor and middle class. If he did he would be willing to raise the taxes on those making over $250,000 a year. He says the wealthy will leave the city if they do. What does he think the poor and middle class will do if they have no money or entertainment or pleasure?
The Mayor is out of touch with the majority of New Yorkers.

Bloombergs Failed Plans And No World Trade Center

Mayor Bloomberg has many failed ideas and plans. The West Side Football Stadium, congestion pricing, re-building the World Trade Center site and Yankee Stadium.
He was not able to get either the West Side Football Stadium or congestion pricing plans passed because they made no sense. In both cases it would not have done anything to help the economic issues but would have in fact made it harder for middle class families. His congestion pricing plan included having people who lived in Manhattan having to pay to come back into Manhattan. The cost to the individual would have been too great. Small businesses would have been hurt because they wouldn't be able to get merchandise when they needed it. The football stadium would have caused what he wanted to get rid of with congestion pricing and that is more traffic in the city. The 2 plans were contradictions of one another.
The Mayor is not totally at fault with the World Trade Center fiasco but he has to take blame because he doesn't speak out on the matter enough. Right now it looks like Bin Laden won if you go by the area. For an industrialized city we should be able to have been at least half way with rebuilding rather than having nothing done at this point. The Mayor and all involved owe something to those who died at the site and their families because they are the leaders of New York City. They have let us all down.
The Mayor lets his arrogance get the best of himself. He doesn't try to work out deals with anyone to get bills passed as he believes in the policy of his way or the highway. An example of this would be his firing of 2 members of the Panel for Education Policy simply because they disagreed with him.
The Mayor always seems to fail with his ideas and policies. We need someone with vision who is open minded to caring about the middle class.

The Poor & Middle Class Suffer From Mayor's Tax Increase Proposal

Mayor Bloomberg has proposed an increase in the sales tax and the firing of 23,000 city workers of which 15,000 would be teachers. These are simple fixes but they will not work as is usually the case with an idea by Mayor Bloomberg.
Raising the sales tax will just put more stress on people who cannot afford rent and food. Once again the Mayor is putting more stress on the back of the poor and middle class with this idea to raise the sales tax.
The reason it won't work is because the city is not collecting sales tax from many companies. Controller William Thompson found sales tax collections had dropped 5.1% in the last quarter of 2008.
The New York Daily News reported on May 17, 2009 that $263 million in unpaid fines by deadbeat contractors and developers exist and the city has not collected them.
Why doesn't the Mayor bother to crack down on big companies and people committing tax fraud throughout the city rather than put the cost of saving the city on the backs of the poor and middle class with a higher sales tax?
Firing 15,000 teachers will once again affect the poor and middle class. The children will suffer with over crowded classes and therefore receive an education that is lacking.
The Mayor needs to crack down on tax cheats who are not paying their taxes. That means major companies and deadbeats who ruin other peoples lives must be made to pay their taxes or put in jail.
Some other ways to get the city back on its feet are to crack down quality of life crimes with fines. Rudy Giuliani cracked down with the pooper scooper law when he was Mayor. Presently Mayor Bloomberg has the police ignore this law because if you come to Brooklyn you will have trouble walking anywhere that is clean. Fine people who do not have their dogs on leashes which is another big problem in New York City. Start fining people who use cell phones in their cars and don't care about the dangers.
When Mayor Bloomberg did a ticket blitz in the city he went crazy with nonsensical fines. He had police ticket people for putting a bag on the seat on the train or sitting on a milk crate. That is ridiculous. He needs to collect money for things that are a danger to others.
The Mayor can also raise the taxes of people making over $250,000 a year which is something he refuses to do. He claims it will cause people who are wealthier to leave the city. These people are here because they can make money in New York City and they have access to the best arts and culture in the country. They would not leave. However, taxing the poor and middle class will make those groups leave out of necessity.
Mayor Bloomberg wants 4 more years. However, he doesn't mention that the city got into financial trouble because of his 8 years as Mayor. If he is such a financial wizard then why is the city in such financial trouble?
It is time for new and creative leadership from a new and creative Mayor.

Mayor Bloomberg Sides With Landlords

If you rent an apartment in New York City then you are at the mercy of the rent guidelines board. They determine the amount that rents can go up every year for a 1 or a 2 year lease.
The way rents are rising in New York City people will have to either leave the city or everyone will be living in smaller and smaller apartments with more and more people. At the present pace one day you may see more than 1 family of 4 living in a 1 bedroom apartment. It is that bad.
When Mayor Bloomberg is asked what he can do about the rent guidelines board he always says he has no control over them but that is a falsehood.
All 9 members of the rent guidelines board were appointed by Mayor Bloomberg meaning he made the decision to favor the landlords. However, he will not take responsibity for the choices he made.
Either Mayor Bloomberg is a poor judge of character 9 times or he has created a rent guidelines board totally in favor of the landlords.
If you rent and want to have a place to live in New York City a few years from now you must make sure to vote against Mayor Bloomberg the man who always sides with the landlords.

Mayoral Control Of NYC School System

Mayor Bloomberg has control of the New York City school system and test scores are up but if you go to a store and give a teenager who is working the register a penny or 2 so you can get back an even amount of change the teenager stares at you not having a clue how to make change.
Being able to pass a test isn't how to advance students. They need to know how to to think beyond the test and today's New York City school kids struggle to do that. Educators need to run the system and not Mayor Bloomberg who only sees dollars when making a decision.
The method of teaching kids to pass tests only as a guideline just doesn't work especially when the arts have become unimportant in the NYC school system.
Students who take classes in music or art do not have to worry about passing as the grades do not count. The arts give students a way to grow and to shine but they do not bring in money and therefore Mayor Bloomberg feels they do not count.
All classes should count towards a students grade. It is an overall education.

Michael Bloomberg Says He Wants A Green NYC But Litters Mailboxes With Flyers

Today I received my third flyer in the mail telling me why I should vote for Michael Bloomberg for Mayor. Its funny how a man who claims to be in favor of making New York City a green city keeps wasting paper on flyers. They are not on recycled paper.
Mayor Bloomberg who is running for a third term has been striving to make New York City a city of have and have nots. He will not tax the rich but has no problem taxing the poor or middle class. This blog will be devoted to telling you all the different things that Mayor Bloomberg has done to hurt the middle class, poor and the city as a whole.
He does not deserve a third term as Mayor because he has done a job that has put the people in the city in a worse position during his 2 previous terms as Mayor.
Mayor Bloomberg has a great advantage over his oponent and that is money. He is abusing that power. He must be stopped and the only way to do so is to ignore his deluge of ads and read between the lines and find out how he's purchased the Mayorship of New York.
