NYC Police, Presidential Elections, Conventions and the American Public

I haven't written anything in quite some time on my blog, but there are just so many things happening that seem to make you wonder about what is going on in New York City and around the country.
The New York City police force has shot 2 men in a one month period and both were questionable responses.  The investigations in both cases were very quick and done by the police department with the Police Commissioner saying they were legitimate shootings.   One man had a knife and no gun and the other had a gun that was jammed.  Maybe it is time for an independent committee to investigate the training and behaviors of the police department as well as the possibilty of a coverup.  It should not be left up to the police department to investigate themselves.

November is near and its time for another election.  This is for all the marbles.  President of the United States.  You would think that with such an important election people would be able or desire to sit down and find out what the candidates stand for and how they will implement their policies.  Everyone complains about gas prices, unemployment, health insurance, increasingly high inflation, lack of pay raises, schools and the involvement the United States has in other countries.  Everyone complains about these things but does anyone know about these things?  Does the average citizen know why gas prices are high?  Do they know why health insurance is so expensive?  Do they know why unemployement is so high?    The highest rated TV show during the Republican convention was Honey Boo Boo http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/08/31/honey-boo-boo-ratings-top-republican-national-convention-rnc_n_1846155.html.   I see lots of comments and slogans on facebook and twitter but I rarely see any true discussion of ideas. All you get is Obama did this and Obama didn't do that. Search for answers why rather than just complaining about it and waiting for the next guy to have the same problems.  Force your leaders to answer your questions and get involved.  If you don't then you will keep complaining and fall deeper and deeper into debt.  The middle class is disappearing because of a lack of desire to stop bad government and bad leaders.  Get involved. Ask questions and look for answers.

Hurricane Issac has caused massive flooding in New Orleans.  People have had to abandon their
homes and for the second time in 7 years seen their lives turned upside down.  What does the Republican party do?  They throw a big party for themselves.  What if they had taken that money and used it help the people of this catastrophe.  Then they would have shown compassion and won over the hearts of millions of Americans.  However, they just throw a big party.  They cry about the high debt but rather than do anything about it they stall Congress and yes, they throw a big party.  What if they used the convention money to help people get jobs?  No, better to throw a party because the American public is a bunch of suckers and will vote for them anyway.  Next up is the Democrats who will do the same thing.  They will throw a big party at the voters expense.  Lots more canned speeches that tell you nothing.  All they do is complain about the other guy and say why he failed.  No one says lets work together and make things better.    The Democrats and Republicans are playing the American public for the fool and getting away with it because the American public allows them too.
