Mayor Calls Reporter A Disgrace

Mayor Bloomberg was asked at a new conference on May 28, 2009 by New York Observer reporter Azi Paybarah if the budget is now balanced is it necessary for Mayor Bloomberg to still run for a third term. The Mayor told Mr. Paybarah he was a disgrace for asking the question.
Many New Yorkers still do not approve of the fact that Mayor Bloomberg has been approved to run for a third term. He did not get this approval with a popular vote but by political haggling.
The Mayor does not understand that people want answers to this question and that any question is legimate when you are running for Mayor.
The Mayor appears to want to be King rather than the Mayor of New York

Mayor Bloomberg To Slash Brooklyn Public Library Budget By 17.5 Million

Mayor Bloomberg has decided to slash $17.5 million of the Brooklyn Public Library's budget and give borough residents the fewest library hours in the city.
Once again the Mayor in his infinite wisdom has decided to attack the poor and middle class. Senior citizens, the unemployed and children spent many hours per day in the library. For senior citizens it is a way of cheap entertainment and a way to keep up with today's world. For the unemployed who like to read or need the use of computer or videos it is a way to get these things at no cost. It is also a place they can do research to get a new job. For the children of Brooklyn it is plain and simple a place to learn and to grow and make New York City a better place. These people can not afford to spend $10-20 a book at Barnes & Nobles like the wealthier people Mayor Bloomberg refuses to tax.
The Mayor does not care about the poor and middle class. If he did he would be willing to raise the taxes on those making over $250,000 a year. He says the wealthy will leave the city if they do. What does he think the poor and middle class will do if they have no money or entertainment or pleasure?
The Mayor is out of touch with the majority of New Yorkers.

Bloombergs Failed Plans And No World Trade Center

Mayor Bloomberg has many failed ideas and plans. The West Side Football Stadium, congestion pricing, re-building the World Trade Center site and Yankee Stadium.
He was not able to get either the West Side Football Stadium or congestion pricing plans passed because they made no sense. In both cases it would not have done anything to help the economic issues but would have in fact made it harder for middle class families. His congestion pricing plan included having people who lived in Manhattan having to pay to come back into Manhattan. The cost to the individual would have been too great. Small businesses would have been hurt because they wouldn't be able to get merchandise when they needed it. The football stadium would have caused what he wanted to get rid of with congestion pricing and that is more traffic in the city. The 2 plans were contradictions of one another.
The Mayor is not totally at fault with the World Trade Center fiasco but he has to take blame because he doesn't speak out on the matter enough. Right now it looks like Bin Laden won if you go by the area. For an industrialized city we should be able to have been at least half way with rebuilding rather than having nothing done at this point. The Mayor and all involved owe something to those who died at the site and their families because they are the leaders of New York City. They have let us all down.
The Mayor lets his arrogance get the best of himself. He doesn't try to work out deals with anyone to get bills passed as he believes in the policy of his way or the highway. An example of this would be his firing of 2 members of the Panel for Education Policy simply because they disagreed with him.
The Mayor always seems to fail with his ideas and policies. We need someone with vision who is open minded to caring about the middle class.

The Poor & Middle Class Suffer From Mayor's Tax Increase Proposal

Mayor Bloomberg has proposed an increase in the sales tax and the firing of 23,000 city workers of which 15,000 would be teachers. These are simple fixes but they will not work as is usually the case with an idea by Mayor Bloomberg.
Raising the sales tax will just put more stress on people who cannot afford rent and food. Once again the Mayor is putting more stress on the back of the poor and middle class with this idea to raise the sales tax.
The reason it won't work is because the city is not collecting sales tax from many companies. Controller William Thompson found sales tax collections had dropped 5.1% in the last quarter of 2008.
The New York Daily News reported on May 17, 2009 that $263 million in unpaid fines by deadbeat contractors and developers exist and the city has not collected them.
Why doesn't the Mayor bother to crack down on big companies and people committing tax fraud throughout the city rather than put the cost of saving the city on the backs of the poor and middle class with a higher sales tax?
Firing 15,000 teachers will once again affect the poor and middle class. The children will suffer with over crowded classes and therefore receive an education that is lacking.
The Mayor needs to crack down on tax cheats who are not paying their taxes. That means major companies and deadbeats who ruin other peoples lives must be made to pay their taxes or put in jail.
Some other ways to get the city back on its feet are to crack down quality of life crimes with fines. Rudy Giuliani cracked down with the pooper scooper law when he was Mayor. Presently Mayor Bloomberg has the police ignore this law because if you come to Brooklyn you will have trouble walking anywhere that is clean. Fine people who do not have their dogs on leashes which is another big problem in New York City. Start fining people who use cell phones in their cars and don't care about the dangers.
When Mayor Bloomberg did a ticket blitz in the city he went crazy with nonsensical fines. He had police ticket people for putting a bag on the seat on the train or sitting on a milk crate. That is ridiculous. He needs to collect money for things that are a danger to others.
The Mayor can also raise the taxes of people making over $250,000 a year which is something he refuses to do. He claims it will cause people who are wealthier to leave the city. These people are here because they can make money in New York City and they have access to the best arts and culture in the country. They would not leave. However, taxing the poor and middle class will make those groups leave out of necessity.
Mayor Bloomberg wants 4 more years. However, he doesn't mention that the city got into financial trouble because of his 8 years as Mayor. If he is such a financial wizard then why is the city in such financial trouble?
It is time for new and creative leadership from a new and creative Mayor.

Mayor Bloomberg Sides With Landlords

If you rent an apartment in New York City then you are at the mercy of the rent guidelines board. They determine the amount that rents can go up every year for a 1 or a 2 year lease.
The way rents are rising in New York City people will have to either leave the city or everyone will be living in smaller and smaller apartments with more and more people. At the present pace one day you may see more than 1 family of 4 living in a 1 bedroom apartment. It is that bad.
When Mayor Bloomberg is asked what he can do about the rent guidelines board he always says he has no control over them but that is a falsehood.
All 9 members of the rent guidelines board were appointed by Mayor Bloomberg meaning he made the decision to favor the landlords. However, he will not take responsibity for the choices he made.
Either Mayor Bloomberg is a poor judge of character 9 times or he has created a rent guidelines board totally in favor of the landlords.
If you rent and want to have a place to live in New York City a few years from now you must make sure to vote against Mayor Bloomberg the man who always sides with the landlords.

Mayoral Control Of NYC School System

Mayor Bloomberg has control of the New York City school system and test scores are up but if you go to a store and give a teenager who is working the register a penny or 2 so you can get back an even amount of change the teenager stares at you not having a clue how to make change.
Being able to pass a test isn't how to advance students. They need to know how to to think beyond the test and today's New York City school kids struggle to do that. Educators need to run the system and not Mayor Bloomberg who only sees dollars when making a decision.
The method of teaching kids to pass tests only as a guideline just doesn't work especially when the arts have become unimportant in the NYC school system.
Students who take classes in music or art do not have to worry about passing as the grades do not count. The arts give students a way to grow and to shine but they do not bring in money and therefore Mayor Bloomberg feels they do not count.
All classes should count towards a students grade. It is an overall education.

Michael Bloomberg Says He Wants A Green NYC But Litters Mailboxes With Flyers

Today I received my third flyer in the mail telling me why I should vote for Michael Bloomberg for Mayor. Its funny how a man who claims to be in favor of making New York City a green city keeps wasting paper on flyers. They are not on recycled paper.
Mayor Bloomberg who is running for a third term has been striving to make New York City a city of have and have nots. He will not tax the rich but has no problem taxing the poor or middle class. This blog will be devoted to telling you all the different things that Mayor Bloomberg has done to hurt the middle class, poor and the city as a whole.
He does not deserve a third term as Mayor because he has done a job that has put the people in the city in a worse position during his 2 previous terms as Mayor.
Mayor Bloomberg has a great advantage over his oponent and that is money. He is abusing that power. He must be stopped and the only way to do so is to ignore his deluge of ads and read between the lines and find out how he's purchased the Mayorship of New York.
